The Wilding Year

I’m thrilled to announce (and simultaneously resisting the urge to change into a wolf and run through a deep, dark forest howling) that my weird fantasy story “The Wilding Year” will soon appear in Strange Horizons.

The story takes place in a world where everyone turns into an animal during one year of adolescence. The main character is a single mother charged with the difficult and often gross job of caring for her teenage son after his transformation. It explores the messiness of parenthood and growing up, the loneliness and friendships we experience during those years, as well as the fear and anxiety that comes with change. It’s a special piece to me, and I could not be happier with the strange and wonderful home its found.
